James was the guest of honour at the exhibition launch of Ross Wason's 25th year in art collection titled Cycles and Sequences, at the Melbourne Mid-Summa Festival 2012.
Speaking at the event, James said that role models needed to be more accesible to young gay people and underlined their importance in the development of these youngsters.
Ross' painting of James features two Australian digger soldiers and a butterfly signifying Cycles and Sequences, the subject of his laters collection.
Some of Ross' works of James have been purchased by Sir Elton John. They can also be found in the Sir Elton John Collection of Photography, Atlanta.
