Trident Motorsport announces an important addition to its line-up for the Qatar Grand Prix weekend, as rising Australian driver James Wharton is set to make his official debut in the FIA Formula 2 Championship. James Wharton will take part in the Qatar Grand Prix round of the FIA Formula 2 Championship, marking his official debut in the category with Trident Motorsport. For the young Australian, this will be his first-ever race behind the wheel of a Formula 2 car, a crucial step in his professional development in his international motorsport career.

“I am extremely grateful to Trident Motorsport for giving me this opportunity to race in the FIA Formula 2 Championship”, said Wharton. “It is definitely a huge step in my career, with new challenges ahead: from a more powerful car to longer races, higher tyre degradation and pit stops. There will be a lot to learn, but I will do my best to make the most of this opportunity. Even though I won’t be competing in FIA Formula 2 next year, this is certainly a great chance to gain experience, grow, and hopefully bring home a strong result”.

The Australian comes from his first season in FIA Formula 3 with ART Grand Prix, including a standout result with his Sprint Race victory at the Red Bull Ring in Austria, achieved through a lights-to-flag performance.

James Wharton will take to the track from the opening sessions of the Qatar Grand Prix weekend, aiming to quickly adapt to the car and contribute effectively to the team’s work over the course of the event.
